Facial Features

July 28th, 2008

After a few laughs and looks in the mirror, I have realized one thing: Sam’s most promanent facical feature is one that I don’t share - a cleft chin (or lovingly ‘the butt chin’). Of course, he is a great looking kid and no-doubt will be a heart breaker when he gets a little older, but I wonder where he gets it from!?! I did read that it is the dominant trait, so it has been hidden in both of our families for a while now just waiting for its chance to resurface. So I’ve put together a short list of guys who share that feature just for laughs, and so that everyone knows that Sam is in good company.

#2 - Kirk Douglas - Or - Sparticus

Just thought I would add some random fun this Monday morning. :)

Allison & Steven | part two

July 23rd, 2008

I know that it has been a terribly long time since I last put up anything new. I can say that in the last 21 days that my life has changed perhaps more than it ever will. So that will suffice as my excuse. However, the wait is worth it, especially for Allison & Steven, who’s wedding I shot before Sam arrived, but am only now having the time to put up. Their wedding was held at the Weisfeld Center in downtown Dallas - an old church with HUGE high walls and funky design. It was really cool. The amazing and talented Ryan Booth joined me for this one and it was a blast as usual. ***Favorite Wedding Feature: Live band W/ Karaoke.***  It was awesome. Another side note, you feel old when kids are on stage singing to Ice Ice Baby when you know that song was out before they were born. I did still know all the words. ;)

Congrats Allison & Steven!

P.S. For those of you waiting to see more photos of Sam, I’m waiting until our birth announcements have gone out, then this blog will be flooded with baby photos. :)

Bless This Child

July 6th, 2008

I ran across this video on SNL’s website. Melanie and I frequently bust into song, but rarely is it this good. Sam will also appreciate this some day.

A quick, funny story: Melanie, Sam and I went to my grandfather’s 80th birthday party last night. We arrived about an hour late because babies take people longer to get ready (who knew?) and when we arrived we were swarmed with people - our family and total strangers over 70. Sam was cruising around comfortably in his car seat/carrier thing until this point when it felt like a sea of eyes and false teeth were closing in on us. So as soon as I popped him out of the carrier, in an effort to show him off to everyone in the room while simultaneously satisfying their lust for baby squeezing, I held him up above my head and sang out, loudly enough to rattle their hearing aids, “ITS THE CIRCLE OF LIFE!” My brother and cousin, the only other people there under 50, laughed while everyone else politely smiled and then went back into the party room, somehow more confused than when they left it. I had a good laugh myself as I brought him back down to cradling level and began to pass him around to family. It was his first trip out of the house.

Day ONE

July 2nd, 2008

I don’t have much time to write any funny/emotional stories of the first day, but I can share with you one photo of our baby. Samuel Paxton Sutton. Born at 2:05 am, this morning.

God bless our family.  Goodnight all.

9 Months.

If the title of this post didn’t give enough away… we have made it to the 40th week of our pregnancy! This is the last post I will put up before the baby arrives, and trust me, it won’t be long now. For those of you who have been tracking with us for the past 9 months, we are thankful to have you. Here are some recent fun shots from around the house, including: The baby room [complete with amazing decor by Mica May and our cool rug from PBK], Melanie’s new camera [to capture all of the baby’s firsts], Kona [our sweet dog who usually doesn’t pose for me], our photo holder in the baby room [currently showcasing all of our sonograms] and of course Melanie [looking saintly after carrying our baby for 9 whole months]! I included the camera to show that although I will continue to put up my most recent photographic work, I am also going to be showing off our proudest accomplishment, our baby boy. Thanks again for all the love and prayers!
